  • During the year Local botanical excursions were organized to Kanheri caves, Silonda, Karnala, Go Green Nursery, Yusuf Meheraly Centre and workshop, Bhavan’s college nursery for the students of FY,SY,TYBSc,and MSc.

  • Botanical Excursion to Pune was organized on 28th September 2010 . 15 students of BSc and MSC and 4 staff members visited the Agharkar Research Institute where they interacted with the Scientists and Research scholars and learnt about the Lichens and Fungal Taxonomy and their preservation and molecular characterization.

  • They were also taken to CDAC, Pune to attend a presentation on Remote Sensing and Vegetation Mapping.

  • They visited the Botanical Survey of India to see the Herbarium Collections and learnt the technique employed at BSI for preserving plant specimens.

  • A Long excursion to Coorg, Mysore, Banguluru was organized during Diwali vacation from 8th to 15th Nov 2010. The students visited Talecauvery Wild life Sanctuary, where the saw the Triveni Sangam of Cauvery, Sujyothi and Kanika rivers, where they experienced the semi evergreen and moist deciduous forest. In Nagarhole National park, the DFO V. R. Singh addressed the students and told them about the activities in the forest department, the history of the park and abut the forest management practices. They also visited Nisargadhama, Abbe falls, Madikeri fort and Dubare elephant camp. In Mysore they were taken to Brindhavan gardens where they learnt about the garden design and horticultural plants and in Banguluru they were taken to Lalbaugh Gardens.

  • Teachers of the Botany department demonstrated the preparation of Agro food products like Jam, jelly syrup and Ketchup in the Refresher Course on “Entrepreneurial and Industrial Biology” organized by Zoology department from 11th Oct 2010 to 30th Oct 2010.

  • Students of BSC and MSc participated in the UGC Interdisciplinary National Biosciences Seminar, “Planet Earth- Take Care - Take Charge” at Jai Hind College on 26th and 27th Nov 2010.

  • On the occasion of “Golden Jubilee Celebrations” of Mithibai College, Department of Botany and Nisarg- Nature Club jointly organized an event Vrikshavalli, Exhibition on ‘Wonderful World of Plants’ and an Inter class Competitions for Bio-Jewellery, Bio-Rangoli, Nature Photography on 11th and 12th Jan 2011.‘Wonderful World of Plants’ Exhibition was to target the stakeholders in education sector & to give them an insight into career and entrepreneurial opportunities in the subject of Botany. Exhibition was categorized into four sections. Biodiversity & Ecology, Economic Importance & Applications, Creative Botany & Entrepreneurship, Careers in Botany. The diversity in plants and ecosystems, utilization for agriculture and industrialization, the damages resulting due to these activities and the methods for conserving the biodiversity were presented as charts and models.
    Exhibition was inaugurated by the Principal.
    A talk entitled “India Naturally – Biodiversity, Climate Change & Us” was delivered by renowned Nature Enthusiast, Dr. Anish Andheria Director, Sanctuary Asia.

  • TYBSc students of Botany participated in the one day workshop on Bioinformatics at Viva College, Virar on 29th Jan 2011.

  • Dr Nishigandha Muni, Department of Botany Jhunjhunwala college, was invited to conduct a session on Biostatistics for the Botany students of TYBSc and MSc., for their better performance.
