NSS

NSS started in Mithibai in 1972. N.S.S. with its three pillars Seva, Sadbhavana and Satkarma guides and motivates us in every aspect and has always been synonymous with social projects. Mithibai NSS played a major role in upholding the down trodden and disaster stricken besides shouldering the responsibility of upholding moral values in society. The motto of N.S.S. is to evoke in every individual the feeling of ‘Not me, But you' and involve college youth in social service.
From tree plantation to Global warming, from Anti-Dowry to Anti-narcotics and Pulse Polio projects- NSS volunteers of our college have involved themselves in a lot of social activities covering a wide range of social problems. Apart from these social stigmas, various avenues of current social tribulations like AIDs, Disaster management, Anti-ragging, are also addressed by volunteers. Mithibai NSS have always played a great role in Blood Donation Drives and often collected maximum number of bottles among the colleges of Maharashtra.
The biggest and probably the mega project was the construction of Balwadis in the adopted areas. This has brought a revolution in spreading education to the rural areas This magnanimous work started right from 1983 when the first balwadi was constructed by our very own N.S.S. unit at our adopted area Savta, a village in Dahanu. From there, the work just grew exponentially. The village was adopted with the focus of upliftment of their people as “India lives in Villages”.

*Report:*

The NSS Unit of Mithibai College organized a mega-blood donation drive in association with Indian Medical Association and J.J Mahanagar Hospital Blood Bank on 27th and 28th July, 2012. The turnout of donors was excellent; a total of 409 blood bottles were collected in the 2 days. The blood donation drive was held in the entrance area of Mithibai college. For efficient organization, volunteers were divided into 3 groups. There was a 'convincing' group which spread the word of the blood donation drive in the vicinity of the college, distributed flyers and also made announcements in various classes, another group helped the doctors and a third group conducted the registrations and awarded certificates to the donors.

Donors had to first register their names, fill a complete form which asked history of diseases. This was to ensure that good quality of blood was collected. Donors were provided refreshments before and after the blood-donation procedure. Finally, they were given a certificate, donor card and a Thank You message from the blood bank.

The drive was a great success.
