img Major Achievements Of Research Activities

The research work carried out at Mithibai College has brought recognition to the college as a center where good research is carried out.  Various workshops in the very modern topics such as nano materials and their applications, Tracer technique and its applications and Instrumental techniques in chemical analysis, which were organized jointly with ICS (Mumbai Branch), IANCAS- BARC along with Chemistry Department. At some of these workshops hands on training was also given to the participants consisting of M.Sc. students (Paper and Research), Ph.D. students, staff of the Colleges and personnel from industries. At one of the workshop Nuclear measuring instruments where gifted to the college.

The good quality research work carried out at the College is also reflected in the fact that the College created history. It was the first time ever that an affiliated college was given to host the NUCAR 2009 (Radio and Nuclear Chemistry) National symposium organized by DAE – BRNS-BARC and Chemistry Department of the college.  Around 450 delegates from home and abroad (19 Nations) participated in this 4 day deliberation at the college.  The staff of the college presented invited talk and won prizes for the quality of research work and presentation.

Staff members have presented their research work at various national and international forums. The staff members were resource persons and chairpersons at various national academic forums such as UGC sponsored refresher course for College teachers, which was organized at national level by the academic staff Colleges, University of Mumbai and Chemistry and Zoology Departments of the College respectively. Research Scholar’s Meet,in which research students who have submitted their synopsis presented their Ph.D. work before peers, was also organized at the College. The faculty of Arts, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Physics and Mathematics also organized Conferences which were well attended and appreciated. The industry’s needs have been substantially met by the way of our students being absorbed by various eminent industries.

The Golden Jubilee of the College was celebrated by various Departments by organizing conferences, research meets, workshops, exhibitions in which the staff and students of the College participated in a very big way. ‘Manshodhan’ a research-cum-project competition was a novel idea in which both the undergraduate and post-graduate staff and students of all the colleges under the SVKM banner competed with each other adding a new chapter to research.

This is the International year of Chemistry (2011) as declared by UN. The Chemistry Department of the College was the first to celebrate the event with a National Conference on ‘Role of Chemistry in Health and Diseases’ in which a large number of research papers were presented.

Some of the staff members have been recipient of prestigious awards such Madame Curie Memorial Award from IANCAS at IGCAR, Fredric Juliot Curie Memorial Oration Award by University of Pune and many more. Their staff members have various collaborative research programs with TIFR, DAE, etc. and also does consultancy work.
